E-commerce

Custom online store development for complex products.

When a standard platform pinches: products with many options, pricing agreements per customer, a configurator or a checkout that has to work differently. We build what your process needs, and say so honestly when a standard store is enough.

Custom or headless, for when standard pinches. Fixed price after a call.

In short

When do you need a custom online store?

You need a custom online store when your products, prices or ordering process do not fit Shopify or WooCommerce, not even with apps or plugins. Think of configurators, B2B pricing per customer, ordering on quotation or an ERP link that must be right in real time. Sharp Creations builds these fully custom or headless, with a fixed price after a call; a standard store starts at €2,950 excl. VAT. Once paid you get the code and the Git repository. We work from Julianadorp (the Netherlands) for businesses across the country.

Honest advice

When it pays off, and when it does not.

Custom pays off for:

  • products with many options or made to measure, such as a configurator that calculates the price;
  • B2B: own price lists, volume discounts, ordering on account and several users per customer account;
  • ordering on quotation or request instead of paying straight away;
  • a link with your ERP, stock or production that must be right immediately;
  • subscriptions or bundles that standard apps cannot handle;
  • speed and owning your data as the core of your brand.

Custom does not pay off for a range of ordinary products with standard shipping: then Shopify or WooCommerce is faster and cheaper. Not sure yet whether selling online works? Start standard and build on later. A custom store is an investment in build and maintenance; it only pays for itself when the standard platform genuinely costs you revenue or time.

Technology

Headless or fully custom?

Headless commerce

With headless you use an existing commerce platform for products, stock, payments and orders, for example Shopify through its Storefront API. We build the store the customer sees ourselves, usually in Next.js. You keep a reliable back end and gain freedom in design, speed and content. Explained: headless commerce for SMEs.

Fully custom

With fully custom we also build the back end: products, pricing logic, orders and admin. That gives the most freedom, for example for B2B logic or a configurator, and needs the most maintenance. Payments run through a provider such as Mollie or Stripe.

Integrations

We connect ERP, accounting, stock and shipping through their APIs, with error handling and logging, so a failed sync gets noticed before a customer does.

Your own data and code

Customer data and orders live in your database, with hosting in the EU. The code sits in a Git repository that is yours once paid.

Price

What drives the price.

We price a custom store after a call, because the range is wide. What determines the price:

  • how complex your pricing and product logic is;
  • the number of integrations and how easy those systems are to connect;
  • headless on an existing platform, or fully custom;
  • the number of customer roles and accounts (especially for B2B);
  • migrating an existing store;
  • agreements on maintenance and further development.

We often start with a short discovery, so the fixed price you get is also right. A standard online store starts at €2,950 excl. VAT.

Ask your question
What does a custom online store cost?
We price it after a call, because it depends heavily on your pricing logic, integrations and customer roles. A standard store on Shopify or WooCommerce starts at €2,950 excl. VAT.
What is headless commerce?
With headless you use a commerce platform as the back end for products, stock and orders, and build the store the customer sees yourself. That combines a reliable base with freedom in design and speed. Read headless commerce explained.
Is a custom store more expensive to maintain?
Usually more than a standard store, because there is more of your own code. On the other hand you pay no platform or app subscriptions and have exactly what you need. We agree maintenance up front.
Can I move from a standard store to custom later?
Yes. Headless is often the logical in-between step: you keep, for example, Shopify for products and orders, and we build your own storefront on top.
Do I own the code of my online store?
Yes. Once paid you get the code and the Git repository, with documentation. You are not tied to us.
Can you build a B2B ordering portal with customer-specific prices?
Yes: customer accounts with their own price lists, volume pricing and ordering on account. If it is more of a customer portal than a store, also see custom web app development.
How long does building a custom store take?
That depends on the scope; the planning is in the proposal. We build in short rounds so you see something working along the way, and usually start within 1 to 2 weeks of your go-ahead.

What does not fit in a standard store?

Tell us briefly what you sell and where a standard store falls short. You usually hear back within one working day, with a proposal or a few focused questions.
